Magazine cover development

For our magazine cover we decided to take influence from the 'Little white lies' magazine covers.
We found that their covers consisted of one main character who had been edited or drawn to look like a cartoon. As our cover would need to have both Antar and Cindy on it as they star equally in our trailer. We decided that instead of using the 'Little white lies' cover, we would create something very similar, but change the name and some stylistic features (e.g having two main characters on the cover rather than one, changing font styles and sizes)
We thought this was a good idea as it allowed us to have more freedom. It also gave us the advantage of changing the name of the magazine to 'young film' as it relates to a younger audience which is intended for our trailer.
To make our cover cartoon like we took pictures of Antar and Cindy and then edited the whole picture and colours on photoshop creating distinguished shadow lines and features. The video below shows the pain staking task of changing colours and features by selecting small sections at a time and changing them. On the right is an example of cindy before being edited on photoshop and after.

On the background of our magazine we decided to create synergy between the movie trailer, poster and magazine by repeating faint 'rec.' moving in the same direction across the background. This is relevant as the trailer is about video diaries.
For the name of our magazine 'young film' we decided to have a caption underneath , as it is an independent movie magazine we created an acronym for the caption. The acronym is of the word film and the caption says 'fun and independent little movies'.
For the positioning of antar and cindy we decided to have them next to each but facing away from each other as the movie trailer is about how they originally don't on with each other. To express how they become friends throughout the trailer we made the expressions on their faces happy and content.
The magazine in general with its cartoon images is very creative and therefor gives us a good reason for it to be displaying an independent film on the cover.

Poster development.

We have taken some pictures and got a feel for the lighting as we want the subject of the photo to be clearly visible and the picture to be of a good standard. We felt that some of our images were too dark and editing them would effect the quality of the images. The result of this was that we retook the photos and managed to get the two effective character shots. The photo shoot gave us the idea to have 'Chase' leaning on the title of our movie. Not only would this be attractive to the eye, but it would also give a feel for his character. Furthermore having 'Cindy' slightly slanted against the 'V' of our title works really well too.

As a group we had to look for the official font used for posters so we had to search on the internet and find it and then add it to our project, we also had a problem using the exact same font as the font used in our trailer as this was an edited font on the program live type so it was not easy to replicate so we had to find a font similar to this font this worked quite well but we as a group know that we should have picked a font to remain complete synergy throughout or film.

After much drama, we came to the decision creating a heart out of images was not going to work. The result we were hoping to get was not up to our expectations so we decided to scrap this idea. Instead, we decided to use the text with the two main characters as our main statement across our poster. In doing so we decided to make our poster landscape. Along with this we decided to use a film strip across the top of our  poster which would show the development of the characters' relationship.

Our final idea was to make our poster more interesting and display our theme of love by using the outline of small red hearts on our background. This fitted in with the theme of our poster and presented the originality we were aiming to illustrate. The hearts also hint on what is to come in the film.

Poster influences for 'Valentines Diary'

As our movie is a romantic comedy we decided to research in to how these movies were incorporated in their poster. We became aware of the characteristics of these movie posters quite quickly. The posters usually were based on a white background which reflected the innocence of the movie. We found that using a white background would be the most suitable for our trailer and that the use of this would mean that emphasis was placed upon the characters and the titles rather than any special effects.

Film posters we felt influenced our initial ideas were ones such '500 days of summer'. We found their film poster influential to our poster as the style of it fits the romantic comedy genre, along with an indie influence to it. We found that the idea of using multiple layered photos was a good idea, and thought that using this effect would be effective on our poster if we took shots of 'Chase' & 'Cindy' together. From observing this film poster it is clear to see that there is characterisation with the use of the male located on the bottom right drawing. We felt that using the main characters in our movie individually with a prop that enhances their character and allows audiences to get a taste of what is to come.

Other fim posters that influenced our design was '50 first dates', we thought that the use of polaroid images could work as it was personal and we felt we could show the development of 'Chase' & 'Cindy's' relationship in this way. Instead of taking this idea straight it gave us the idea to create a heart out of mini polaroid images. We felt this would be creative and an individual way of providing audiences with a taste of what is to come. As our idea developed we were inspired by this to create a film strip portraying the two characters as individuals and romantically.

Change of idea for The Chase

After reviewing our idea on 'the chase' scene we have decided the shots we already had of Antar chasing Cindy could work. Our reason being if we took multiple short cuts of the pre-exsisting footage we would be able to create an effective final clip for the trailer. The short cuts would vary from our previous shots and would create the correct atmosphere for the scene.

It become apparent when testing this theory that the idea worked. The short takes put together which we had already shot fitted together creating a successful sequence. We were happy with the outcome and decided that this would be perfect to use in out trailer. The atmosphere is unnerving for the audience and ends with a cliffhanger which portrays the idea there is something to come.
