This image relates to all films from all over the world that were released in the UK and how well they did in this country the top selling genre for world film was Comedy this is the genre of film we had chosen our film to be. If we were releasing our trailer to a UK audience we would try to expose the comical aspects to the film rather than anything Romance due to the fact romance doesn't seem to sell as well as comedy does. Also I would like to not the top performing title was sex and the city 2 for the comedy genre this fits our romcom style of film.
This image represents the film released in the UK and Republic of Ireland ranked by gross box office so we as a group would need to identify the film based on our genre so we decide ours would be a romcom so you have a hint of romance and comedy in our films 18 comedy films released this was 15.3% of all film releases this year so it means the genre of film is looked at and respected. The genre of romance didn't have as many releases in the year of 2010 so we decided mixed together we can touch on some romance as it's not a subject films are based on very often yet comedy makes the film very marketable and it seems these films are enjoyed by the general public as they managed to make 10.89 percent of the total box office. This information is based on UK films released in the UK this is significant to our film as ours will be a UK film.
For our film we would want it to be accessible to the right audience and also suitable for the right people so ideally we would like to make our film either 12A because this genre holds the highest percentage of gross box office. Yet 15 has the most releases and also the film closest to the genre of film we would like to make has the classification of a 15. This restricts who can see the film.
As our film will be an independent UK film released in the UK we will be required to look at this and it seems the majority of films were a 15 certification the film is Kick-Ass this is a comedy so it is a similar type of film to ours as our film is a hybrid a mixture between both genre's.
PG Movies tend to be more fantasy and things that require more of an imagination than anything as they play around a child naivety. Comedy is only seen once and that is Gulliver's Travels and Romance doesnt appear at all so i dont believe this genre is suited for a young child accompanied by a parent.
12A this genre of film makes 12 years olds or younger feel more mature as this is accesible when they are accompanied by an adult
Films under this category can contain adult themes, hard drugs, strong words, moderate-strong violence/sex references, and mild non-detailed sex activity. These kinds of films are good because they don't allow the viewer to become exposed to so much they don't want to see they allow the audience to know what is going on but not out and out shown blatantly show
Films under this category do not have limitation on the bad language that is used. Hard drugs are generally allowed, and strong violence/sex references along with strong sexual activity is also allowed. Scenes of strong real sex may be permitted if justified by the context. This is why most of these films would be crime or horror because they deal with extreme situations that are not generally everyday situations as they remove themselves from realism
This is the gender split graph between what genders went to see what films. The highest film with a female percentage was sex in the city this is a film similar to what we would aim for in terms of style so this means it may be suitable to target women primarily.
15-24 is the best age range to target due to the fact they go once a month in the highest percentage and we would want frequent film goers to be targeted rather than the people that just go once per year also the age range between 15-24 are more likely to be reliant on there own income or free more often in order to go out whereas the 7-14's are reliant on parents unless its at a weekend and any older than 24 they may have to many family commitments.
These are fillms with an audience with an age range between 7-14 none of these films are suited to the genre of film we are making or portray the concept that we are trying to have in our film so i don't believe this would be a good idea to make our film accessible to this audience as some parts may contain things that wont appeal to this age range
The film we find most similar to ours is sex in the city this is in the age range between 15 and 24 this means we will aim for the age range between 15 and 24 as they are not to young or to old to understand the issues our film deals with.
